Pinch asafoetida
1 onion, finely chopped

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 green chile, finely chopped
1 pint home canned tomatoes
1 1/4 cups fresh cilantro leaves, finely chopped
1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
